"I still hold that it is the main earthly business of a human being to make his home...
as symbolic and significant to his own imagination as he can;
whether the home be in Notting Hill or Nicaragua, in Palestine or in Pittsburgh."-G.K.Chesterton, "The Artistic Side"

December 2012 Meeting of the WPA Chesterton Society

Advent greetings WPA Chestertonians!

Our December meeting has traditionally been a time of celebration and reflection on a subject particularly near and dear to G.K Chesterton's heart.....Our Lord's Incarnation.
This year, our Dec.13th meeting will be in keeping with our tradition.

We will meet at the Community Center at 7:30PM for refreshments and readings of poetry, drama and song. Please plan to have had dinner before coming to the meeting.

The refreshments at the meeting will be a pot luck of fruits, cheeses and desserts, along with seasonally appropriate "festive beverages". We will each need to bring contributions to the refreshments and beverages. Paper products and coffee/teas will be provided. Please let me know by email no later than Dec. 9, what items you will plan to contribute.

The poetry reading will consist of the Incarnationally themed poems that we will each bring along to share. Poetry by Chesterton (or others that are associated with him) is encouraged.

The drama reading will be of a Christmas play called "Sir Cleges" written by Frances Chesterton and recently published in the book How Far is it to Bethlehem: The Plays and Poetry of Francis Chesterton , edited by Nancy Carpentier Brown. There will be many parts to be read. Copies of the script will be provided, but if you have a copy of the book, please bring it along.

The musical side of our gathering will most likely consist of some carol singing as is indicated in the script to the play. We can venture into more singing if we wish. If any one has any lyrics pages or christmas carol books that might help us, please bring them along. We are possibly going to have an accompanist!

We will wrap up our festivities around 9:45.

Hope to see you on Thursday December 13!

Vicki Darkey

P.S. The meeting will be held in the Village of Middle Lancaster, at the Lancaster Township Community Center located on Kings Alley and Community Center Drive, in Butler County PA. Kings Ally is a right turn off of Rt. 19N, approx. 4.5 miles north of Zelienople, just past the Zion Lutheran Church.
